How to Write a Blog Post in WordPress (Author Role)

1. Log in to WordPress

  1. Open your website’s admin page (usually: yourwebsite.com/wp-admin)
  2. Enter your username and password
  3. Click Log In

2. Go to Posts → Add New

  1. In the left sidebar, click Posts
  2. Click Add New
  3. The post editor will open

3. Add the Post Title

  1. Click the Add title field at the top
  2. Type a clear, descriptive title for your blog post
    Example: “5 Tips to Improve Your Writing Skills”

4. Write the Blog Content

You can now write the main content of your post.

In the Block Editor:

  • Click inside the editor and start typing
  • Press Enter to create a new paragraph
  • Click the ➕ (Plus icon) to add:
    • Headings
    • Images
    • Lists
    • Quotes

Best practices:

  • Use Headings (H2, H3) to organize content
  • Keep paragraphs short (2–4 lines)
  • Use bullet points for readability

5. Format Your Content

  • Bold important words
  • Italicize emphasis
  • Use headings to break sections
  • Add links if needed (highlight text → click link icon)

6. Add Categories and Tags

  1. On the right sidebar, open Post Settings
  2. Under Categories, select at least one category
  3. Under Tags, add relevant keywords (optional)

Categories = main topic
Tags = specific keywords


7. Add a Featured Image

  1. In Post Settings, click Featured Image
  2. Click Set featured image
  3. Upload or select an image from the Media Library
  4. Click Set featured image

8. Preview Your Post

  1. Click Preview (top right)
  2. Check how the post looks on desktop and mobile
  3. Fix any formatting or spelling issues

9. Publish or Submit for Review

  • If you have permission:
    • Click Publish
    • Confirm by clicking Publish again
  • If approval is required:
    • Click Submit for Review

10. Edit an Existing Post (If Needed)

  1. Go to Posts → All Posts
  2. Hover over the post title
  3. Click Edit
  4. Make changes and click Update
